What is Enterprise South Island?
Enterprise South Island is a joint venture between the Universities' of Canterbury, Lincoln and Otago, funded through the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC). The three universities are recognised for their research excellence and areas of particular strength and are committed to helping develop a new culture that facilitates the development of economic outcomes from research as well as academic and research excellence.
Enterprise South Island seeks to capture intellectual property within the South Island universities and develop this into technology-based businesses, which will generate economic growth within the South Island and help to develop a culture within the universities that actively promotes entrepreneurship. Capturing the innovative capacity of the South Island will have benefits for all of New Zealand. The engagement with industry through this programme is important and will help to stimulate the existing technology-based businesses and contribute strongly to the national economy.
Ultimately, Enterprise South Island aims to create, in each of the Universities’ of Canterbury, Lincoln and Otago, a self-sustaining entrepreneurial environment in science (including health, agricultural, horticultural and environmental sciences), engineering and information technologies through facilitating culture change, developing skills of staff and students and developing ideas and concepts.
